I rode a swing
I haven’t been
On such a thing
Since I was little
When sadness
Was brittle
That a short gush
Turned sorrow to mush
As the little seat
Shoved a rush
Of wind upon my face
And set me reeling
Back in place.
Back and forth
On a swing
That’s always moving
But never getting
Anywhere.
It will do tonight
To cause a stir
And somehow blur
The rapid whir
Of my racing mind.
When thoughts of you
Came back too,
I rode a swing
To forget you.
I lean back
So the stars are shooting
And catch myself wishing
On each one
That when I get off
With one big hop
You won’t be far behind.
Love your poem and especially love the fact of keeping the “inner child” alive and being optimistic that love will come back.
and adore that artist stretch … that would have gone well with my poem –Let Dreams Take Flight.
Have a wonderful day.

When I read this aloud, it’s as if the words are also swinging. Wonderful flow.
hey thanks for reading.
I was singing in my head when I was writing it, which helped make it rhythmic.
I have to practise reading out my poetry more. I read once, it wasn’t very pretty.
I’ll visit your blog too. 🙂
sometimes a swing is the best thing to clear my head…playful…and like the hope in that last line…
I agree. the hope in the last line alludes to the swing in a way. it’s about going back to the original state. like moving on and then realizing that can still go back and give hope another try.
thanks for reading
